What Our Clients Think

What is Scalp Micropigmentation?

Scalp Micropigmentation (SMP) is a precise, non-surgical procedure that replicates the appearance of natural hair follicles using specialized pigments. It’s ideal for anyone experiencing bald spots, thinning hair, alopecia, or scalp scars—delivering a realistic, fuller look tailored to you.

What is the process of hair microblading and how is it used for scalp and facial hair restoration?

How Does Hair Microblading Work for Scalp & Facial Hair?

Hair microblading—sometimes called scalp micropigmentation—offers a non-surgical way to restore the look of natural hair. In this process, skilled practitioners carefully deposit tiny pigments into the scalp using specialized techniques. The end result? Pigments mimic real hair follicles, helping to create the appearance of a fuller head of hair without any incisions or the need for lengthy recovery.

Unlike traditional tattooing, microblading uses ultra-fine needles and natural color blends to build up fine, realistic impressions that match your natural look. This makes it equally effective for filling in thinning areas or disguising scars, especially for clients with longer hair who want to avoid shaving. The technique is also popular for enhancing facial hair—such as beards, mustaches, or sparse sideburns—creating the impression of more robust and even hair growth.

Microblading’s appeal lies in its subtlety. When performed by an experienced artist, the results are virtually undetectable—blending seamlessly with your existing hair and letting you enjoy renewed confidence without anyone being the wiser.

Different Types of Scalp Micropigmentation

Scalp Micropigmentation can be customized based on individual needs. The different types include:

  1. Full Scalp Micropigmentation (Shaved Look)

    • Ideal for individuals with complete or significant hair loss.
    • Creates the appearance of a freshly shaved or buzz-cut head.
    • Works well for men experiencing male pattern baldness.
  2. Density Enhancement SMP (For Thinning Hair)

    • Best for individuals with thinning hair who want to add the illusion of fullness.
    • Blends seamlessly with existing hair to create a denser look.
    • Common for men and women who do not want to shave their heads completely.
  3. Scar Camouflage SMP

    • Covers scars from hair transplants (FUE & FUT) or injuries.
    • Uses pigments to blend the scar with the surrounding hair.
    • A popular choice for individuals who have undergone previous hair restoration procedures.
  4. Alopecia Treatment SMP

    • Suitable for individuals suffering from alopecia areata, totalis, or universalis.
    • Helps create the appearance of a full head of hair despite unpredictable hair loss patterns.
    • Works well for both men and women with alopecia-related hair loss.
  5. Female Scalp Micropigmentation

    • Designed to add density to women’s thinning hair without the need to shave.
    • Enhances hairlines and creates the effect of thicker hair.
    • Works particularly well for women experiencing hair loss due to genetics, postpartum changes, or hormonal imbalances.
  6. Soft Hairline SMP (Feathered or Natural Look)

    • Provides a subtle and natural-looking hairline.
    • Ideal for those who want a softer, less defined hairline rather than a sharp one.
    • Mimics natural hair follicle patterns for a realistic effect.

Scar Camouflage SMP: How does scar tissue affect the results of scalp micropigmentation?

Scar tissue is different from the regular skin found on the scalp. It tends to have a unique texture and may react differently to pigment during the SMP process. This means special care and expertise are required when working over scars, whether they result from hair transplants, injuries, or surgery.

Our experienced technicians are skilled at color-matching and adjusting application methods to ensure the pigment blends seamlessly—even in scarred areas. The goal is to soften the appearance of scars, making them far less noticeable by mimicking the natural look of hair follicles.

Scar camouflage SMP can be highly effective for covering up both large and small scars—including the long, linear scars left behind by strip-method hair transplants or the smaller dot scars from FUE procedures. With the right technique, most scars can be masked to blend in with the surrounding hair, so you can feel confident about your look once again.

SMP is ideal for:

  • Men and women with pattern baldness or thinning hair
  • Anyone with alopecia or hair loss from medical conditions
  • Those looking to camouflage scalp scars from surgery, injury, or transplants

Is scalp micropigmentation suitable for all skin tones and hair types?

Absolutely! Scalp Micropigmentation is a highly adaptable treatment that works for people of every skin tone and hair type. Whether you have fair, medium, olive, brown, or deep skin, a skilled practitioner will select pigment shades to match your natural coloring, ensuring a seamless and realistic result.

This versatility extends to all hair types—from straight to curly, coarse to fine. SMP can replicate the look of hair follicles regardless of your natural hair characteristics. Men and women of all ages and backgrounds have experienced life-changing results from SMP, no matter their unique pattern of hair loss—be it a receding hairline, thinning at the crown, patchiness, or complete baldness.

Because pigment shades and dot placement are customized for each client, Scalp Micropigmentation delivers natural-looking density and fuller coverage, perfectly suited to your own look and style.

The SMP Procedure

The Scalp Micropigmentation process involves:

  1. Consultation: Our experienced technician reviews your goals and answers all questions.
  2. Pigment Selection: We match pigment to your natural hair and skin tone.
  3. Treatment Sessions: Usually 2–3 for optimal density and realism.
  4. Aftercare & Touch-ups: You receive clear aftercare instructions and ongoing support for lasting results.

Is scalp micropigmentation a painful procedure, and what is the recovery process like?

Is Scalp Micropigmentation Painful? What to Expect During and After the Procedure

One of the most common questions we hear is whether scalp micropigmentation (SMP) is a painful process. The good news: most clients describe the sensation as mild, often likening it to a light scratching on the scalp rather than anything truly painful. Because the pigment is deposited only in the upper layers of the skin, the discomfort is minimal for the vast majority of participants.

To ensure your comfort, we apply a topical numbing cream before the session begins, which helps take the edge off any sensitivity you might feel. Some people may experience a slight tingling or mild warmth while the technician works, but this typically fades quickly, and many clients are pleasantly surprised by how tolerable the sessions are.

Recovery and Aftercare

After your SMP appointment, it’s normal to notice some light redness or minor swelling in the treated area. These side effects are temporary and usually subside within a few hours. You’ll receive a clear set of aftercare instructions to help keep your scalp healthy and ensure optimal results—think of it as giving your new look the VIP treatment! There’s no need to press pause on your routine for days; most clients return to regular activities almost immediately, with only a few recommended guidelines to follow.

In summary, scalp micropigmentation is designed to be a comfortable, straightforward process with very little downtime. With the right care, the results can last for years before a touch-up is needed.

Are you suffering from?

ALOPECIA

Alopecia can be unique to every individual. Scalp Micropigmentation can guarantee full coverage of any types of Alopecia, whether its Alopecia areata, Alopecia totalis or Alopecia traction. Our technique will cover and blend into pre existing hair.

HAIR TRANSPLANT

Scalp Micropigmentaion combined with hair transplants help to achieve full density. At SMP Trendsetters, we have assisted many clients who have undergone hair transplants that have not received their desired density.  We deposit pigments around the transplanted hair to give a fuller look. This procedure will not harm the implanted hair. We recommend a period of 9-12 months before getting our SMP treatment.

SCARS

Scalp Micropigmentation is great for disguising scars.  If you have had a scar from a head trauma surgery, FUT, or FUE hair transplant, SMP will give you full coverage. It is recommended to wait a minimum of 12 months for the scar tissue to be fully healed.
